To Moderate or Not to Moderate?

I was reading this story tonight    (from 2005) and got to thinking about where we stand now. Last I heard, when I wrote a piece for OJR (Online communities: Growing an Internet garden) publishers weren't responsible for third party content even if they moderated their site.
I know I'm not going to stop moderating (gatekeeping), but I was wondering where the courts currently stand.
Anyone know?

Taxonomy and the long tail

If you're not using tags or taxonomy on your content, I urge you to start. Not only does it make it easier for people users to find things on your site (see the MFP 'Index'), it allows Google's robots to classify information from your site. I find a get a decent amount of traffic from 'long tail' searches.
Every so often, I study the terms people are using to find the site, and incorporate them into tags on the stories.
